About Elders in the church

James 5:14 – Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

Titus 1:5-16
⁵For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
⁶If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
⁷For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
⁸But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
⁹Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
¹⁰For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
¹¹Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake
¹²One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, the Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
¹³This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
¹⁴Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
¹⁵Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
¹⁶They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

The online encyclopedia Wikipedia defines an Elder as: “An elder in Christianity is a person valued for his wisdom …” and we definitely have wise elders and we certainly do value them greatly, thanking God for sending strong pillars to lead the way and who encourage others to do the same.

Our Elders

 

Elder John Kerr     Elder John and his wife Dolores are living proof that God’s life for us is good. He is a man of faith, strength and a great example to others. A pillar is a support structure of a building and Elder John has been a support of this ministry since the beginning – literally. Elder John and his wife Dolores are also Pastor Kevin’s parents and have supported him in love and faith his whole life. Elder John is faithful to the Lord in all ways without a mean word in him. He is always willing to do anything asked and much of what he does is done without being asked. He has done everything from building pulpits for Pastor Kevin to praying for the work of the Kingdom. Along with his wife by his side they ones who hold up the arms of God’s anointed so His people can take the city back for the Lord as well as minister to the people in many other nations! Elder John is always looking for the next thing he can do for the Lord. There is no greater example for the younger people in the church with his mild manner and “won’t quit” attitude.

Elder Skip Voss Elder Skip is gifted strongly in the areas of evangelism and counseling. He moved here from California to be a helper to Pastor Kevin and to the ministry God has planted here in Key West, Florida. Indeed, he has supported Pastor Kevin and stood together with God’s people to fight the good fight of faith. Elder Skip is a great encourager to Pastor Kevin as well as to the congregation. He encourages with words of joy and faith-filled declarations of victory. 2 Corinthians 1:24 “Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.”   Elder Skip and his wife Suzanne had lived in the Keys and moved back to his home state of California when he heard the voice of the Lord telling him to come back to Key West and support Pastor Kevin at Covenant Word Church. It took no time at all for him to head back and submit himself to Pastor Kevin, and he has grown ever since. We are all blessed by his dedication to God first, but also dedication to our Pastor as well. He has a heart to bless and support Pastor Kevin in any way he can. He will do anything for someone who is sincere in their need and honest about their desire to change the situation. He has been a blessing to us all since he arrived.
